Historic Back-country Near Gothic, Colorado

Historic Back-country Near Gothic, Colorado

Catch a View of the East River Meandering Through the Rockies

Meandering East River
Gothic Road (aka Gunnison County Road 317) is awe-inspiring, as shown by this photo of the meandering East River below. It is one of my favorite spots in the world. The aspens were just beginning to show their golden fall colors.
Fall colors adorn the Gothic Road.
Paradise Cabin
Back in the summer of 1995, I had taken a photo of an old cabin in Gothic, which was occupied by researchers at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. Staff at the laboratory conducts research on summer wildflowers, mammals, amphibians, plants and birds in the region. This photo was enlarged, framed and hung in our great room. We drove from Crested Butte to Gothic to see if we could find that cabin. Luckily, the quaint old cabin was still there along the roadside, only with newer window and door frames. Activities had ceased now that it was fall, and the little settlement looked empty.
The Paradise Cabin today.
Researchers stay in these cabins during their summer internships and studies.
Navajo Reservation
Our ride home to Surprise was just as beautiful, because rain was falling all across the Navajo Reservation, which created inspiring vistas.
The Navajo Reservation was beautiful in the midst a rainstorm.
